BIOGRAPHY
Christopher Knox Oakey is an emerging young American conductor and pianist. He is in demand internationally, performing in concerts and festivals in venues ranging from New York to London, France, and Germany. He is a truly modern musician and he is dedicated to making music for today, with bold vision, energy, and an unwavering commitment to music of all kinds, from the ancient to the utterly new.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, he undertook pre-college studies at Mannes School of Music in Manhattan, studying conducting with Scott Jackson Wiley and piano with Tatjana Rankovich while performing in various venues in New York and Philadelphia. From 2022 to 2023, he was the pianist in the Auger Advanced Study Ensemble at Settlement Music School in Philadelphia. He also studied at a number of summer festivals in New England, including Summer Sonatina and Point Counterpoint.

He attended Music & More Summerfest in Trebinje, Bosnia & Herzegovina, in 2022 and 2023, where he was assistant conductor to Dorian Keilhack and Pascal Verrot while also performing as a pianist. There, he made his conducting debut with the Festival Orchestra, as well as winning second prize in the concerto competition.

He has founded multiple orchestras, notably the Philadelphia Composers’ Orchestra in 2023 and Orchestra Innova in 2025. He remains the Director of Orchestra Innova.
As a collaborative pianist, he has worked in large and small ensembles, and is particularly talented as a song pianist and an accompanist for string players. He is the pianist of the Baudelaire Trio and maintains relationships with a number of singers, violinists, and cellists.
As a song pianist, he has appeared in competitions such as the Brooks van der Pump English Song Competition (where he received an honorable mention), the Rebecca Clarke Song Competition, and the Concours international de la mélodie de Gordes.

He is currently based in London, studying at the Royal College of Music. He is studying conducting with Toby Purser and Howard Williams, and studying piano with Andrew Zolinsky, Simon Lepper, and Dorian Leljak.
